New Grants Announced for Livestock Housing
DEFRA have announced the new Animal Health and Welfare Infrastructure Grant which will provide funding for new and upgraded livestock housing. The Grant will open later this summer, initially focussing on housing for calves (less than 6 months old), but in time grants will be available for adult cattle, pig and poultry housing.

Grants of between £15,000 and £500,000 will be available to cover up to 40% of the costs of new or replacement housing, or the costs of adapting existing housing to better meet the demands of extreme weather and climate change. Projects should aim to enhance social contact between animals and the ambient environment to generate both welfare and productivity gains.
Applications open later in the summer, however in preparation, prospective applicants are encouraged to apply for an Annual Health and Welfare Review. This provides an opportunity to discuss, alongside wider herd health and welfare topics, the proposed housing project with the applicant’s vet, which is the first step of the Grant application process.
