Support for renters this winter
The Government has set out a range of measures to continue to support tenants in the private rented sector throughout the coming autumn and winter period. The measures include:
- extension of notice periods to 6 months except in certain serious cases, for example, where tenants have demonstrated anti-social behaviour or committed fraud
- evictions will not be enforced in areas subject to local lockdowns
- evictions are to be suspended over Christmas
- new procedures for possession hearings in the courts when these re-start from 21st September
